Register Today! Take your DNR Hunter Education Course This Spring

Spring is the time to earn required hunter education certifications when more than 40% of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Hunter Education courses are held statewide.

Hunter education courses are taught by DNR trained and certified volunteer instructors. Students learn:

  • firearm handling skills
  • regulations
  • responsibilities of being a safe & ethical hunter

Every year, almost 30,000 Youth & Adults in Wisconsin Become Certified in Hunter Education.

Wisconsin hunter certification is recognized by all states and provinces requiring hunter education. The purpose of the course is to reduce the potential for accidents, injuries and fatalities; and to promote safe, responsible and ethical use of the resources.

The first-time hunter education graduate receives a free small game license the year the course is completed. This is for Wisconsin residents only, 10 years of age or older. Certificates issued after January 1, 2017 will serve as a small game license and are valid for hunting small game until March 31, 2018.

All Wisconsin recreational safety students are required to obtain a Wisconsin DNR Customer ID Number when registering for a safety education class and must provide that number to their instructor.
